R/BASEBALL ALL STAR BREAK POWER RANKINGS

We have a new power ranker for the Mets this week, prose-before-hoes. For the sake of transparency we had 24/30 voters checking in. The pirates rep forgot his comment.
# Team Δ Comment Record
1. Cardinals - The Cardinals are going into the All-Star break with the best record in baseball. Over this past week, they took both games against Houston at Busch before going into a 4-game series at Wrigley. As always, the Cubs gave their all against the Cardinals, and the two teams split the series. Cardinals were fighting to stave off dropping 3 of 4 to the Cubs, and they did so in exciting fashion. Blows were traded throughout the game, with the Cubs twice coming back to tie the game. But in the top of the 9th, the Cardinals' offense would come alive. After Matt Carpenter had a flyout, Carlos Beltran doubled and then advanced to third on an E9. Allen Craig singled Beltran in, giving the Cardinals a 7-6 lead. David Freese came up next and singled, moving Craig to second, and then Yadier Molina came to the plate. The Cardinals' first half ended on an exciting note, not only in the win at Chicago, but the win giving them the best record in baseball for the first half. 57-36
2. Red Sox - The Red Sox now have the most wins in the majors, and don't appear to be slowing down. Still no news on when Buchholz is going to be back, but he should give the rotation a huge boost when he does return. Lackey continues to have maybe his best season ever, and certainly his best as a member of the Red Sox. Losing the lefty reliever Andrew Miller was big, but the Sox went out and traded for Matt Thorton who should fill in nicely. 58-39
3. Pirates - 56-37
4. Athletics - The final game before the all-star break last year gave the A's a .500 record. This year they head into the break 17 games over .500 and leaders of the AL West, a spot they were again not suppose to be in according to all the "experts". Even with all the injuries, offensive slumps by our top guys, horrible calls by the umps and lack of shut down innings at the beginning of the season, the A's continue to feed the haters crow! Oh, and im not sure why everyone is surprised by the boy in the green and gold..https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/356571784029540352 56-39
5. Rays +4 Rays are going into the break with the top Wild Card spot and are only 2.5 games behind the Sox for the division lead, mostly due to the improvements in the pitching. Price threw some of his best games of his career, with two back-to-back complete games under 100 pitches and 0 walks allowed. Archer joins Price in throwing a complete game shutout without any walks, which has been his main issue in the minors. A month ago, Rays fans wanted to cut Luke Scott, yet he’s been on a torrid hot streak, hitting .333/.395/.638 in the last 28 games. The second half schedule does seem tough, with two west-coast road trips where the Rays always seem to struggle, and a ton of divisional play against 4 great teams, but if the offense doesn’t cool with this kind of pitching and defense, the Rays should be able to hit 90 wins for the 5th time in 6 years. 55-41
6. Tigers - As we enter the symbolic halfway mark (so what if we’ve played 94 games), the stars are coming out to shine in the Motor City. Miggy became the first player ever with 30 H90 RBI by the ASG break (only to be joined a few days later by Crush Davis). Austin Jackson has once again cut his K rate, Torii Hunter and Jhonny Peralta have been nothing short of spectacular, and Biggy is still on pace for 115 steaks. The starting pitching has been great on a historic level, and Joaquin Benoit and Drew Smyly have been filthy good in the back end of the bullpen. As we enter the second half, look for Dave Dombrowski to add a bullpen arm and the inevitable arrival of outfielder Nick Castellanos. Also, you heard it first here: Victor Martinez is going to have a monster second half. 52-42
7. Braves - The end of the first half is finally upon us, and with as many harsh critiques the Braves have gotten througout the first half, here we are, in first place by a surprising margin. It seems the Braves have been treading water since that first two weeks where they went 12-1, and that's kind of true. The All-Star break couldn't come at a better time, as Jason Heyward, both Upton brothers, Freddie Freeman, and Jordan Schaefer all went down with injuries within like, four days. Hopefully we can take the break to rest and prepare for the second half, all while rooting for Kimbrel and McCann in the All-Star game and watching Freddie hug everyone in sight at the Home Run Derby. And (This time I'm not way premature in saying...) The White Bear is back, y'all. 54-41
8. Rangers -3 54-41
9. Reds -1 53-42
10. Orioles - What more can I say about Chris Davis? 37 homers and 93 RBIs going into the break? 64 extra base hits? A team leading .315 batting average? What he's doing is absolutely ridiculous and I'm loving every second of it. Faced with a very good Rangers team, the O's managed to split the series behind strong performances from Wei-Yin Chen and Miguel Gonzalez before busting out the long balls against the Blue Jays. Adam Jones and Davis were 11/20 in that last series with 6 homers, 13 RBIs, 13 runs, 3 walks (ALL BY ADAM JONES! OH MY GOD!!!!), and only 4 strikeouts. Scott Feldman picked up his first win in an Orioles uniform on Sunday and the O's are sending five All Stars to New York, as Chris Tillman was added to the roster to join starters Davis, Jones, J.J. Hardy, and reserve Manny Machado. 53-43
11. Indians +3 The indians really needed a strong week, and they performed very well. After losing 3 of 4 to the Tigers, they came back with a vengeance to take a series vs. the Jays and decisively sweep the Royals. It was a great week for the Indians starting rotation in particular, crowned by a spectacular MLB Debut by Danny Salazar, who threw 7 Ks in 6 complete, with just 2 hits and 1 ER. Kluber and Kazmir also had excellent starts. Offensively, the Indians have stayed the course, with Asdrubal Cabrera returning to form and a few strong outings from Jason Kipnis and Michael Bourn in particular. To top it off, Lonnie Chisenhall has continued to be excellent in his return from AAA, hitting .289 in July and hitting the first grand slam of his career(video) against the Royals on Saturday. 51-44
12. Diamondbacks - Ending the first-half taking 3 or 4 from the Brewers was welcome after an ugly sweep at the hands of the Dodgers. The NL West is shaping up to be a dogfight, but can't say there's a better place to be than on top for now. 50-45
13. Yankees -2 Jeter why do you tantalize us like this? Why why why why! In other weird injury news, does anyone remember Curtis Granderson? Guy's not even taking swings yet. It feels like the entire heart of our batting order won't be any impact at all for the entire season. If we hang tight with the division, we could be a force down the stretch, but we have to get there first, and we really are getting there. There have been a lot of Joba/Hughes trade rumors, and with Pineda coming up, we could see a crazy backroom trade for a big bat nobody knew was available, true to Cashman's style. We'll see what the future holds, but for now, let's watch Cano get boo'd by Mets fans. 51-43
14. Dodgers +2 With a little bit of health (never mind two SPs lost for the year, Kemp, and Crawford on the DL) the Dodgers turned their season around with a 17-4 run. Of the top 30 NL players in WAR, the 3 with the fewest ABs are Puig, Hanley, and AJ. If they reach full health, prepare to hate. 47-47
15. Nationals -2 48-47

R/BASEBALL POWER RANKINGS SEPTEMBER 9TH

For the sake of transparency we had 16/30 rankers checking in.
# Team Δ Comment Record
1. Red Sox +1 87-58
2. Braves -1 85-57
3. Athletics +5 Awlright!!! The A's offense finally look playoffs ready once again. The rotation still doesn't seem ready to take on the best, but the vibe in Oakland is still good (Although a 3-2 loss on Friday to the Astros had us holding our breaths). This week's up against the Twins, then down to Arlington for the season's last set against the Ranger Danger. This will certainly feel like the most important series of the year. As long as the right guys get on the field, and the right guys spend their free time hiding baseball cards around Walnut Creek, the division is definitely in reach. I'd spot Ken Korach's new book, but I think that's been covered to death. 83-60
4. Dodgers -1 83-59
5. Cardinals 0 The Cardinals had a tough set to wrap up their season series with the Reds, dropping 3 of 4, although coming after they already clinched the season series against the Reds. They came into St. Louis with something to prove, though, as they swept the Buccos en route to regaining the top of the hot zone that is the NL Central. 83-60
6. Tigers -2 A rough week lowlighted by a beating by the hands of the Red Sox cannot leave soon enough. Honestly, there wasn’t much to like this week other than the recent re-emergence of Andy Dirks. His left handed bat in the lower half of the lineup will be key down the stretch and hopefully in October. Justin Verlander is running out of time to figure things out. Good news though: this team is still pretty damn good and Max Scherzer makes two starts this week. The boys go to Chicago for three against the Sox, then come home for three more against the Royals. 82-61
7. Reds +3 82-62
8. Pirates -2 So the Pirates got to 81 wins for the first time in 21 years and all they need is one more to have a winning season, and then they proceded to lose 4 games in a row, which includes getting swept by the cardinals and losing the divison lead. They are now tied with the Reds in the wildcard and are only 8 games up on the Nationals for the final playoff spot. For many teams out there, 8 games seems like a solid lead. But trust me, after the last two seasons, Pirates fans are nervous right now. Well this week the Pirates have a 3 game set at the Rangers and a 4 game home stint against the cubs, hopefully the pirates can at least grab 4 wins this week. 81-61
9. Rangers -2 The Rangers had a forgettable week, with 2 wins and 4 losses in games against AL West rivals, including Oakland, who now holds a 1.5 game lead over Texas in the division. The Rangers' pitching was dreadful this week with a 5.67 ERA, with an offense that produced 4.5 runs per game. The Rangers hold a 3 game lead in the Wild Card, which might be their only possible entrance into the playoffs if the Athletics keep up their dominant performances (8-2 in last 10) and the Rangers keep scraping by. This week begins a 6 game homestand against the 81-61 Pirates and 83-60 Athletics. UNSUNG HERO: Rookie Martin Perez has been masterful lately, only giving up 6 runs in his last 3 starts. RANGERS.GIF How I felt about this week 81-61
10. Rays -1 "The West Coast Horror Show show came to an end Sunday after a much needed win vs the Mariners. The Rays salvaged 3 wins out of 10 on their west coast trip; most of the struggles have been with the offense, which had been consistently at the top of baseball for most of the season. Maddon’s theory of the Rays pressing at the plate with runners in scoring position, thus leading to chasing pitches and striking out seems to be the likely reason. The Rays also made some costly defensive blunders that cost a few runs. With 4 other teams on their heels for the 2nd wild card, they must win the Twins series and not get demolished by the red hot Red Sox. 78-64
11. Orioles 0 "The O's went 4-3 this week, are only 2 games out of the Wild Card, but holy shit, this week was so damn frustrating. For the seven games this week, the O's managed to go 6 for 64 with runners in scoring position, including 3 for 37 in the White Sox series, capped by an abysmal 2/18 in the third game of the series. And, above all else, not only did they win that game, but they won the freaking series 3-1. For those keeping track at home, 6/64 is a .094 average and 3/37 is a .082 average. For a team that's had the offense carry them for the season while the starting pitching struggled, finally getting good starting pitching and then doing that is infuritating. It's like you have to actually try to be that bad. GAH! Phew. Okay, I've got that out. That being said, not everything was bad. Scott Feldman pitched a complete game shutout (the first complete game recorded by the O's this season, making them the last team to accomplish the feat) and Danny Valencia has become a hitting machine of late. In his last 9 games, he is 18/32 (.563) with 8 multi-hit games and 3 homers. Maybe he could start teaching batting practice... DAVISWATCH: HR (48) 76-66
12. Indians +1 The indians have had a strong week, with some really remarkable games thrown in. There were a few strong performances from Yan Gomes, Nick Swisher, and an incredible 12 K in 6 innings from Scott Kazmir. They played two series this week, one against the wild-card contesting Orioles and one against the Mets, and they won both. The tribe is looking pretty strong so far in September, and if we wat a shot at the playoffs, they'll have to stay the course. Check out Swisher's beautiful swing on a solo shot vs. the Mets this week. 76-66
13. Yankees -1 It's pretty easy to look at the series versus Boston and say, hey, we did well but we just got unlucky. Here are the scores for those games: L8-9, L8-12, L9-13, W4-3, which results in a 29-36 total, but the series we swept against the White Sox included two unlikely victories, and the last victory versus the Sox was a bit lucky also. Our target should be a 90 win season to be a reasonable wild card berth, and we're looking at this: 14-4, with series against BOS, BAL, TOR, SFG, TBR and HOU. That means, worst case scenario, we're looking at dropping one versus BOS, BAL, TBR and TOR, and sweeping SFG and HOU. Who's feeling lucky here? I know I am. Let's do this! 76-67
14. Royals 0 75-68
15. Nationals +1 73-69
16. Diamondbacks -1 72-70
17. Angels 0 So now we start winning. Oh, ok. Well, I guess that's ok. 67-75
18. Blue Jays +1 The Blue Jays had a pretty great week, going 5-1, with their lone loss coming in walk-off fashion against those pesky Diamondbacks. Rookie second baseman Ryan Goins continues to impress, hitting safely in 11 of his 15 games since being called up on August 23rd, while providing rock solid defence. 67-76
19. Rockies -1 66-78
20. Phillies +3 The Phillies are playing some pretty inspired baseball behind Ryne Sandberg, the sweep of the Braves was nice and I'm hoping for a win on Thursday at the only game I'll get to attend all season, other than that though we aren't looking good for a top 10 pick, which might prevent RAJ from going too crazy in free agency like it did last year so that might not be an awful thing 66-77
21. Mariners 0 65-78
22. Padres +3 First of all apologies for missing the past two weeks. Since the season is winding down and down the stretch all the Padres will be competing for is a 3rd place finish in the NL West, a lot of my posts will be looking towards the future. With 3 weeks left in the season, one thing to watch is the prospects coming up. Reymond Fuentes, OF, is the biggest name to come up so far. Chris Robinson, C, has also joined him along with an expanded bullpen that includes guys that have been shuttling back and forth between AAA and ML. Jaff Decker, OF, should be called up again once the AAA season winds down. A lot of people want to see what Dean Anna, IF, can do at the ML level though he is not currently on the 40-man roster. Another player that could receive the call is Yeison Asencio, OF. Unfortunately, Rymer Liriano, Casey Kelly, and Joe Wieland are all hurt. 65-77
23. Mets -3 64-77
24. Giants -2 64-79
25. Brewers +3 Scooter Gennett was already one of the favorites in Milwaukee solely because he replaced Rickie Weeks. A serious look shows that he'll be loved not on who he's replacing but what he's doing. Scooter is hitting .331/.368/.535 with six home runs in only 154 plate appearances. Most of this is against righties and his abysmally performace against lefties .095/.136/.095 is something to keep in mind. But his name is Scooter, now that's ballplayer name! 62-80
26. Cubs +1 With series losses against the Marlins and Brewers, the Cubs guarantee yet another losing season. Junior Lake and Brian Bogusevic both did well of offense, while in a sign that hell has indeed frozen over, Kevin Gregg has reached 30 saves. 60-82
27. White Sox -3 The White Sox ended another long losing streak Sunday with a win over the Orioles. 57-85
28. Twins -2 61-80
29. Marlins 0 53-88
30. Astros 0 47-96
